Coin Error and Variety Attributions

If you’re unsure about what you’ve found, take good photos of your discovery and inquire about it online in designated coin groups or communities.  Become involved with your local Numismatics Associations, seek out mentors, and build relationships with other collectors in the industry.

If at any time you feel a collector or dealer is being rude or unpleasant, kindly thank them for their time and remove yourself from their presence.  Take your coin elsewhere for another opinion.  Remember that it’s no more fun to be the giver of bad news than it is to be the receiver of it.

Start at a coin dealer or pawn shop nearby, and they’ll let you know immediately if it’s a coin worth sending off for grading.  Moreover, remember that not all collectors like the same errors and varieties.  There are many reasons to invest your time and energy in the coin collecting hobby.
