2009 Professional life cent errors and varieties exist!  For instance, when I began coin roll hunting I started out by buying boxes of penny rolls from the bank.  In keeping with practicing what I preach, I recently bought an original wrapped roll of the 2009 P Professional Life Cents from Ebay.

Check out this 2009 P Professional Life Cent defective planchet error!  It stood out from the rest of the coins in the roll because of the silver color on various areas of the coin.

Furthermore, “since the introduction of copper-plated zinc planchets in 1982, Lincoln pennies are affected by a wide variety of plating defects.  Moreover, mishaps in the plating bath result in unplated, or partly plated planchets.  Other misprints can lead to plating that is too thin, too thick, or oddly diffuse.” – Coinworld.com

Furthermore, this 2009 defective planchet plating error penny isn’t the first I’ve found.  However, the mintage of 2009 pennies are much lower than shield cents.

In other words, “the mintage of 2009 Lincoln cents were extremely low relative to the prior Lincoln memorial cents.  For example, the 2009-P Professional Life cents have a mintage of 316,000,000.”  – coinmintages.com

Furthermore, billions of 2019 shield cents were minted.  I was ecstatic to discover a 2019-D partial plating error.  Moreover, I found it in a roll obtained from a local bank.  It was because of the previous research done on defective planchet plating errors that I knew what I was looking at.

Defective Planchet Values

According to Daniel Malone of Portsmouth Coins, “values on defective planchets depend on how dramatic and severe the defect.  For instance, a cent with a slight defect can be worth over $30.

A dramatic example may sell for over a $1,000.”   Values in the $700 and up range are rarer however, and most values tend to be around $200 since most defective planchets are not extremely dramatic.” – coinauctionshelp.com
