Featured Coin Hunting Guides

Most people spend money without looking at it, but natural detectives look at money and find a fortune.

Use these featured coin roll hunting guides to hone your detection skills how to get unsearched rolls of coins to hunt.  I’ve created a toolkit you’ll need for a successful hunt here.

The Detective's Quick-Start FAQ

Q: How do I start my first hunt for rare coins? A: Start with a standard roll of quarters or pennies from your local bank. Look for anything that feels “off”—different colors, thicker rims, or dates that match our guides above. Detection is all about noticing the anomalies!

Q: What is the most common error a new detective can find? A: Look for “Die Cracks” (raised lines on the coin surface) or “Off-Center” strikes. Our 2002 Indiana and 2008 Arizona guides show exactly how to spot these “cactus leaf” and rim errors with the naked eye.

Q: Is my 1776-1976 Bicentennial Quarter worth more than 25 cents? A: It depends on the mint mark and the condition! Use our Bicentennial Quarter Error List to check for the rare silver varieties and the doubled die errors that true detectives search for.

Imagine turning a fifty cent roll of pennies into $50.00. I’ve done it.  You can too if you find and sell at least five of errors or varieties for $10.00 each.  They must be uncirculated to request that price.  Pennies have halted production, but not in value.

Plus, the best chance of finding mint state 2020 penny errors and varieties is to search through uncirculated 2020 original wrapped bank penny rolls.

Error Pennies Worth Money

Through the years many different kinds of feeder fingers of widely varying shapes have been used.  Moreover, some presses use a dial feeder, which looks like the dial of an old rotary phone. – error-ref.com

A feeder finger is a moving machine part that delivers a planchet to the striking chamber.  Additionally, it functions as an ejection finger after the strike.  Observe arrows noting a 2020 d penny value increased by feeder finger errors.

Feeder finger errors are relatively minor, but they’re still collectible.  Feeder finger errors are the result of the feeder finger scraping across the the anvil die.  Therefore, die scrapes appear on a coin as closely spaced, parallel ridges.  – error-ref.com
