2009 Guam Quarters are Key Dates

Meanwhile, mintage was low because the recession caused people to dump all their change at the bank for all of 2007 and 2008, to keep the bills paid. Production halted in 2009 over a recession.

American troops took over during the Spanish-American War.  Japan held it for two years during World War II, but the United States regained control.  Then the peoples of Guam became American citizens in 1950, and set up their own government under the US Secretary of the Interior.

Guam is Land of the Chamorro

Additionally, the Guam quarter is the third in the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program.  In Guam quarter designs, a map of Guam is center stage.  Furthermore, the southern part of the island is mountainous while the northern part is flatter, surrounded by cliffs dropping to the sea.   Moreover, Guam’s motto, and part of the quarter’s design, translates to “Guam, Land of the Chamorro.

The design also features a latte and a flying proa. A latte is a large goblet-shaped stone, used for centuries in Micronesia to hold important buildings up.  The latte symbolizes the culture of Guam’s native people, the Chamorro.

The flying proa is a type of canoe with a sail.  Chamorro craftsmen used to build swift but stable boats, able to change direction without turning around by shifting the sails.  As a symbol, the proa speaks of Chamorro history, invention, and discovery.” – usmint.gov

Moreover, the secondary images look just like the normal devices on the coin.  In other words, a machine doubled coin will be flat instead of raised, as shown in the image below.

“Furthermore, doubled letters will often show “splits” in the serifs of the letters whenever the letters have serifs.  Additionally, if the letters have squared off corners, then those corners will often show strong “notches.”

Furthermore, it’s possible for a coin to be a genuine doubled die that displays machine doubling.  Learning the difference can be challenging for new collectors.  For this reason, online coin communities and groups are great for getting more than one opinion.

Key Dates are a Big Deal

“The 1982 and 1983 quarters are most famous for below-average appearance and are the Washington quarters you want to check your change for.”  No mint sets were issued during those two years.  Furthermore, quarters of these dates look battered after a short time in circulation. Therefore, finding one in mint state condition will fetch a very nice premium.
