Anthony mintage varieties.  Additionally, observe the reverse of the coin for a “Full Talon Susan B. Anthony Dollar.”

Coins featuring Susan B. However, it wasn’t popular in circulation.  As a result, it only has only four dates.  Susan B Anthony dollar dollar coins were minted from 1979 to 1981, and in 1999.

Collectible 1979 Dollar Coins

Originally, the coin was not popular among the public due to it to its likeness to the quarter dollar.   Furthermore, it made it easily mistaken for a quarter and accidentally spent as one.  However, it makes for a fine collectible coin.  Additionally, the various varieties add to the excitement of collecting them.  Moreover, a few are known to be quite significant, and coin collectors have paid far more than face value for them.

Furthermore, the 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar is one of the most notorious coins in the history of United States coinage.  “On the surface, the SBA Dollar had the best of intentions in honoring a recognizable woman.” – usgoldbureau.com

The Right of Women to Vote

Susan B. Anthony was an American social reformer and women’s rights activist.  In other words, she played a pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement.  Moreover, she willfully marched to the voting polls and cast her vote.  This was at a time when women weren’t permitted to vote.

After casting her vote, Susan was arrested and charged for breaking the law.  In August of 2020 Susan B. Anthony received a posthumous pardon by President Donald J. Trump.  The pardoning placed the spotlight on the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which secured the right for women to vote in America.

However, this wonder woman “wore her conviction as a badge of honor.”  Susan died in 1906 before the 19th Amendment became law.  Furthermore, the Susan B. Anthony Museum decided to reject the pardon in spirit of her defiance.

Why Proof Coins Are More Valuable

“Proof coins have a higher relative mark-up than uncirculated coins.  Furthermore, proofs sell for more than face value as collector’s items.  However, they cost more than uncirculated coins to purchase.”  That’s why it’s uncommon to find them in circulation.

Moreover, proof coin production moved from Philadelphia to San Francisco in 1968.  It’s where all proof coins gain the “S” mint mark. Proofs subsequently made at West Point carry the “W” mint mark.

Proof Coins are Collectibles

The S mint mark is meant as collectors coins  However sometimes proof coins wind up in circulation.  Kudos to their finders!  An impaired proof  “ is a proof coin that grades less than PR-60; a circulated proof.” – coins.thefuntimesguide.com

“Because of the extra effort, time, labor and production costs in making a proof coin, the respective government mints often sell them at higher prices.  The end result is that usually, but not always, a proof coin of the same date will be more expensive than a non-proof uncirculated.”
